GF, Virginia - 05/02/2009

In April 2009 I traveled from Virginia to Waterford, MI to purchase a new 2008 Crownline 240LS boat from Club Royale Sales and Service at 90 S. Telegraph Rd., Waterford, MI 48328; (248) 681-9100. When I arrived at the dealership and asked them to start the boat, they were unable to do so, since they had ran the boat out of gas. Upon initial inspection, I noticed a bilge pump was running non-stop, but the mechanics were unable to fix it. Instead they recommended I take the boat in for warranty work when I returned to Virginia. It took over an hour for them to start the boat and after they finally started it, there wasn't time to test drive the boat.

Reluctantly, I decided to purchase the boat based on the manufacture's reputation.

When completing the paperwork, I learned they didn't have a copy of Manufacture's Statement of Origin (MSO) for the trailer (needed to register the trailer). This later became a problem and took over two weeks to get. I finally contacted the trailer's builder.
When I returned home and test drove the boat for the first time, I noticed the exhaust manifold on the engine was cracked, making the boat inoperable.

Over the last two weeks, I have attempted to resolve this issue with the owner of Club Royale, Mr. Rob Davis; however, after nearly twenty phone calls, I have been unable to resolve this issue. Due to upcoming vacation plans, I had the part fixed at a local dealership in Virginia for $545.28. The mechanic at my local dealership, explained that the part was broken due to freeze damage; therefore, it was not covered under the engine's warranty. He also felt the selling dealership should have identified this problem prior to selling me the boat.

I have asked Mr. Davis to resolve this issue and to pay for my incurred expenses; however, he has been unresponsive and has refused to pay for any of the expenses.

Since purchasing the boat, I have learned that other parts were missing and other items were damaged. Having owned two boats before and several cars, this has been my worst experience with a dealership. Overall, the sales staff were helpful; however, when problems occurred, the owner was unsympathetic and attempted to brush me off whenever possible.

Regardless of the deal, I would recommend looking elsewhere when shopping for a boat.
