I had the pleasure of buying may latest boat a few years back through Eddy at True North and unlike some of the other reviews I've read, I had a great experience. So much so that 3 years later I semi-retired from a business that I owned for 20 years and began my own successful brokerage here in CT (I had been brokering boats part-time on & off for about 9 years as well.) I can't say enough good things about Eddy & True North; a truly great guy in my humble opinion, and the inspiration for my current endeavors.
Unfortunately I am aware that the economy has been particularly hard on our industry and it pains me to see that perhaps it has negatively impacted True North. I'm also aware that any transaction involving money exchanged has two sides, each with there hopeful outcomes. I can't pretend to know anything about anyone else's experience, just my own.
I haven't spoke to Eddy in a number of years and I hope the best for him and his family, as it pains me to see the discussion about him here.
PLease see our postings throughout this review site. Mr Caselnova kept our good faith deposit and still hasn't paid it back. He states here on this site that he has experienced thousands of transactions since these postings and tells us he can't sell hardly any boats so he can't pay us back.
BUYER BEWARE!!!! Give no deposit. See the boat and give NO MONEY unless you are certain you will be buying a boat especially out of town buyers.
I am reading the complaints about mr caselnova and I must say that my experiences have been anything but negative. Eddy or Vito is a very knowledgable and helpful guy. He works equally as hard for buyers and sellers. If you have a problem with him you probably caused it. I have completed 3 transactions over the past 10 years with true north and have always been satisfied. Yes he is sometimes hard to reach which can be frustrating but he's there when he needs to be. I highly recommend eddy and his services. unless you try to pull a fast one on him you shouldn't have a problem.
Yeah, then tell us how we cause someone taking our deposit and apologizing and saying I will get that back to you and almost two years later still no deposit????
is it a coincidence or not that this post.. THE ONLY POSITIVE POST is date the same day as Mr. Caselnova's post about how he is experiencing thousands of transactions as a result of these postings???? September 13, 2010???? Also, how are we to know what is true when he says this here and then emails us on October of 2010 saying he can't pay us back cuz he isn't selling much of anything????????????????????????????? Which is it, thousands of transactions or barely anything being sold, Eddy or Vito or whoever you are????
Gary Of Poughkeepsie, I have delt with Eddy several times and like him alot. I have never had a problem with him, have purchased a boat from him and he once whent way way out of his way to help me move my boat, a 33 donzi at night, in a blizzard 110 miles to my club and all I paid for was his gas and toles. Thats the Eddy I know. and Im sure as a business owner myself there are tough times and shit happens. Butit seams to me there are 1-3 people here stating a problem ok, he has made thousands of deals. That seams like a reasonable percentage to me.
I am astonished that True or should I say LIE North Marine is still in business. My deposit for a "wonderful beauty" is still not returned for a peice of trash. I now believe VITO CASELNOVA, owner of True North Marine...what a joke of a name should be re-named FRAUD DEPOSIT MARINE as he pretends to sell boats to out of state buyers and "need a deposit to hold the boat" in order to sell the ability to steal deposits" on very poorly maintained boats that look beautiful in pictures, but in reality, after thousands of dollars spent in time to travel and see them are not worth hundreds. I read the other reviews and believe he is out to scam people for money to solve his own problems. My advise, contact your local state's attorney as I will be. I had the same problems as all the other buyers so buyers, not just beware, run for your life and your wallet intact!
I am the owner of true north marine and I am laughing out loud at this post because i havent dealt with anyone named John from Connecticut. At least not where there has been a dispute. I am pretty sure that this was posted by V.M from Boston who's only problem with my purchase agreement is that he breeched it. Either he didn't read it before signing it ( very likely since he is mere child still wet behind the ears ) or he figured he could scare me into refunding his deposit by threatening to post negative info about me on the Internet. Silly boy contracts are not for kids. If anything the result of his postings have been inquiries from prospective clients asking for my side of the story , in other words the unbent truth, which then usually results in a new customer. With literally thousands of transactions and happy customers I stand by my record.
Mr. Casselnova, Unfortunately I did not post as John from CT ... all my postings on the Internet are with my name, and email address in the event that people want more information. I have nothing to hide, I was the one that had his money stolen. Regarding being a child ... I'm a 32 year old college grad that runs a $120 million/year sales department... hardly "wet behind the ears". The worst part of this whole experience is hearing from others who lost more then I did. When I originally started posting about Mr. Casselnova, it was to warn others to proceed with caution - unfortunately all it has made me realize is the extent to which Mr. Casselnova has gone to try to protect a reputation that just is not accurate or true. I'm sorry to read all the other accounts.
Buyer Beware! My experience with True North Marine was not as excellent as Robin G experienced. If you'd like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at vin.mccauley@yahoo.com. Long story short. I found Mr. Caselnova to be extremely responsive, nice, friendly and accomodating before I signed a contract and gave a deposit. After the fact, it became increasingly difficult to contact him or get returned phone calls or emails. The boat I was interested in did not pass it's survey, so I declined to consumate the transaction. That is when all responses from Mr. Caselnova stopped. It's going 3 months and he has still not returned my deposit. I originally went to Mr. Caselnova for two reasons. First, he had a boat for sale that I was interested in. Secondly, because on his website he says he specializes in first time buyers and his motto is "because nice matters". Below is an excerpt from the last email I recieved from Mr. Caselnova. "you have no idea who you are screwing with. and i do not take threats very well. now that you have decided to be a dick i definitely will not be returning your deposit any time soon and i can make websites too , mine is going to be www.customersthatsuck.com and you will be the poster boy for it !" Again, his motto is "Because Nice Matters". That is literally cut and pasted from his last email to me, if you'd like the full email - please contact me and I'd be happy to forward it to you. I won't say "do not do business with Mr. Caselnova" but I would encourage you do one of two things if you are considering buying a boat from him ... 1) have a lawyer spend a good deal of time going over the P&S contract before giving a deposit 2) don't give a deposit unless you are prepared to loose it. At this point, dealing with Mr. Caselnova has cost me over $2,000 (trip to NY, survey, legal fee's and deposit) and I am not the proud owner of a new boat. I've spoken to other people in the marine business in Long Island and they have said it's people like Mr. Caselnova that give marine brokering a bad name. According to my dealings with him, I'd have to concur. Buyer Beware!
Unfortunately, True North Marine is anything but true. I live in Pasadena, MD and we saw a boat advertised on True North Marine's website that we were interested in. We were instructed to give True North Marine a "good faith deposit" to be able to come to New York tosee and test drive the boat as well as survey it. The deposit required was 5,000.00 dollars. Unfortunately, when we traveled to New York, the boat was not in the condition it was advertised in. The boat was advertised as "in excellent condition" and Mr. Caselnova described the boat to be "cherry", however, the surveyor described the boat as "fair at best" and the boat was not even ready to be driven when we arrived. In fact, the boat went into reverse when put into drive and had a dead battery when we arrived and a multitude of other problems. This was not the boat we had in mind! We had planned this trip for three weeks and Mr. Caselnova was aware we would be coming. Needless to say, we did not wish to purchase the boat. Mr. Caselnova promised to refund our "good faith deposit" yet he never did. We even had a contract stating we would be able to recieve a refund should the boat not perform or survey to our satisfaction. Buyer Beware. We found out after the fact that True North Marine has an F rating with BBB on a rating scale of A+ to F. We now are in the process of suing Mr. Caselnova and True North Marine to get our deposit back. The moral of the story.... proceed with caution and do not give a deposit to hold any boat because it won't be given back to you. Bottom line is this, Mr. Caselnova told us the delay in returning our deposit was because his wife had breast cancer and he was having financial problems. That was almost a year ago and he has not sent us one dollar of our money back. How are his personal problems our problem? Please don't let his personal and financial problems become yours. True North Marine is False North Marine!
We expereinced the identical set of problems with Caselnova- pertaining to false advertising, the poor condition of the vessel; his refusal to return calls ONCE had had deposit, and the incredible hassle to get portions of deposit returned, once lawyer threatened him with action. Everyone should beware when dealing with the company.
A total misstatement of the facts. If anyone is interested in the truth or see a copy of the agreement that he breeched feel free to contact me. It's funny how mr m left out the part about tryIng to bribe his surveyor to write a statent saying that the vessel was unsuitable for it manfactured use. Yes there ate a lot of scumbags in the brokerage industry however I am not one of them. I do however beleive in the old adage "treat people the way you would like to be treated yourself". There are always two sides to a story.
Mr Caselnova on September 13, 2010, right here on this website claims he has had thousands of transactions from these negative reviews and then two weeks ago, October of 2010, sends us an email saying he can't pay us back the 5,000.00 good faith deposit he owes us since spring of 2009... because he is not selling boats and is having a hard time and working three part time jobs to survive??? Which is it EDDY or should we say scammy?????????????????
Anyone who wishes to see the emails Mr Caselnove wrote us with all the promises to pay us back or needs our help with any scams they have been victim to by True North Marine, please email me michellerenehammer@gmail.com. We have been advised that if we all come together and show a pattern, this matter will be criminal and not just civil. Any other victims of this fraud, please break the silence and email me. There is power in sticking together.

I purchased a 22ft Boston Whaler using True North & Ed Caselnova in 2005. My purchasing experience was great, he helped me negotiate a fair price. I received a quality boat and it still is turn key each time we go to the beach.
